Moshi Bird Club was started in 2014 with the hope of bringing together people in Kilimanjaro Region, Arusha Region, and beyond for the purpose of education, data-collection, and appreciation. We are informal (no membership fees or oath to sign!) and we organize ourselves twice a month to view birds in various environments of northeast Tanzania. We try to compilate data for the Tanzania Bird Atlas project, which intends to  understand much more about the seasonality Tanzania’s birdlife by collecting data on a monthly basis and concentrating on evidence of breeding.

We attempt to make things affordable by sharing costs for gas, taking public transport, or hiring a dala dala for longer/larger expeditions. Even if you don’t have binoculars, a bird book, or even previous experience birding, we’ll help each other out!

We have a small core team and are welcoming to anyone interested in joining us, whether you are just passing through one time or if you care to join us on every trip! We are a mix of professionals and students, expats and locals, beginners and experts, and appreciate all birds from the Pied Crow to Beesley’s Lark.

If you are interested in any data from our past expeditions, please see our contact page. We keep an spreadsheet with our expeditions, species for each expedition, and GPS points.
